I entered the world of computers in 1998 specifically to create the Portrait of Christ. That took three years of intense study, to some degree of computers in general, but Photoshop in particular as that was the tool I chose to create the image. When I had accomplished that goal I had discovered an abiding affinity for computer graphics and started taking simple but occasionally profound concepts and graphically embellishing them.
When one of those images resonates with someone it will tend to stick in their mind and act as a catalyst about which their own ideas and points of view coalesce toward creating instances of realization. I'm only providing a sort of guide; almost a small void toward which ideas and remembered experiences are drawn. When enough bits are assembled in the 'essay reader's' mind, a new visualization is created from their own life experience and so specifically tailored to their evolution. In reality they are 'writing' their own essays. I call the little images I made to stimulate such reflections Graphic Essays and created about fifteen of them between 2001 and 2004 in Photoshop when the siren song of 3D programs set me off in new directions.
On this page you'll find thumbnails of those little works. Clicking on them will yield a lightbox display of bigger versions. Beneath each is a PDF download link to obtain a print quality, letter sized PDF. The landscape-oriented images have been rotated to portrait orientation for simplicity of printing.
